Texas Holdem Poker
Texas holdem is one of the most famous poker games. If you have not played holdem, then you are missing out on the goodness of poker. Here is a bit in to the rules applicable for Texas Holdem Poker.

All of the holdem games require forced bets in this game. There are going to be 2 players who will place the forced bets also known as blinds and they are:

  • Small blind: Places half the bet that should be placed by the big blind.
  • Big blind: Places the lowest unit of bet which is permitted in the game. Usually the big blind is twice the small blind.
  • Any further bets in the game will be in increments of the big blind.

The following is the sequence in which the game will proceed:

  • Before the cards are dealt the “forced bets” or the “blind bets” are placed in the pot. Since the players are placing the bet before they get any cards or looking in to it, it is known as blind bets.
  • Two face down cards are dealt to every player in the table.
  • The big blind and the small blind will not be placing the bet pre-flop now because they have already placed the money in to the pot before the game began; however, if they are planning a raise or re-raise, they will have to make their contribution.
  • There are going to be 4 betting rounds like the pre-flop, flop, turn and river betting. A total of 3 bets are allowed in each round like a call, raise and a re-raise. Beyond this the game proceeds to the next round automatically.
  • Pre-flop betting: This round of betting takes place after the first two pocket cards are dealt to the players, but before the flop cards are dealt.
  • Flop betting: After the pre-flop round, the 3 flop cards are dealt in the center of the board. Three face up cards are dealt in the center and every player in the table will compare their pockets with the flop cards and they will make their bets, raise, re-raise or fold accordingly.
  • Turn betting: One up card is dealt followed by the betting round.
  • River betting: One up card is dealt followed by the betting round.
  • The show down compares the best hands of players still heads up.
  • The best five card hand wins the pot.

The betting structure variation in Texas holdem can be created using:

  • The limit
  • No-limit betting
  • Spread limit betting
  • Pot limit betting

Also, the variation can also be created using:

  • High split
  • High-low split
  • The betting structure difference and the pot splitting difference can be combined to form different variants in Texas holdem.
