7 Card Stud High-Low
Understanding the eight-or-better qualifier aspect for the low hand is very important when you are playing the 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo variant. The combination of cards that you are using to make the low hand should not have 9, 10, K, J, or Q. The numbers 9, 10, K, J, or Q are better in value than 8. This is a two way meaning where the high hand should have numbers more than 8 and the low hand should have numbers less than 8; therefore the name 8-or-better. The low hand can have values until 8 to qualify for competing for low.
The following are the proceeds of the game:
- The ante is made by all the players participating in the game.
- Two cards face down and one card face up to every player (3 cards to each player in total) is provided.
- First betting round follows. The bring in will be made by the player who has the lowest upcard value.

The regular rules for the high-low pot split are as follows:
- Half pot will be taken by high hand.
- Half pot will be taken by the low hand.
- In cases, where the high and the low hand is with the same player then he takes the full pot.
- If there are no lows, then also the high hand takes the pot.
- Where there are two qualifying lows, the half pot is quartered between the lows.
- If there is a high-low scoop and another low qualifier in a tie, the low share gets quartered and the scoop gets 3/4th of the pot.
