No Limit Versus Pot Limit Versus Cap Limit
There are three important betting patterns in any poker play and they are no limit betting, pot limit betting, and cap limit betting. Here is a brief intro.
No Limit Betting
No limit betting is a betting structure where you will be permitted to bet all of your stacks in one single bet! There is no limitation or restriction about the maximum bet that you can make in this kind of betting structure.
When you are playing in a no limit game you got to be sufficiently bankrolled and you got to know the worthiness of the risk that you are undertaking by your huge bet. Every raise you make is going to put you in to a situation demanding your dominance to prove your power. So, when you are betting no limits know your hand strength, the worthiness of the risk and the returns you make from the pot, and if you are bluffing know the workability of the bet versus the person you are targeting it at.
Pot Limit Betting
In a Pot Limit betting structure you will be required to bet at par with the value of the money in the whole pot when it is your turn to betting. You can bet more (raise the pot), but you cannot bet less than the existing total of the money in the pot when it is your turn for action. The player next to you should be betting the total value of the pot after you have made your bet and nothing less. The same applies to every player in the game. Notably, the value of the raise should be at par (equal) to the value of the pot.
If the value of the pot is $100 when it is your action if you want to raise you will be putting in $100 + $100 = 200. The player next to you should be putting in $200 + $200 to make the raise.
The pot odds concept is very prominently considered before making the bets in pot limit games by most players to evaluate the viability of the raise they are going to make.
Cap Limit Betting
In cap limit betting structure you will be permitted to bet up to the pre-determined maximum and not more. The ranges of the minimum and the maximum bets that you can make will be provided in the game and you must make your bets in accordance to those higher and lower limits. Since, there is a limit (Usury Cap) on the maximum or the minimum bet that you can make at any point in time, this is known as the cap limit.
Cap limits are also applicable to the total number of raise and reraises
The advantage of cap limit betting is that you will be able to estimate in an overall the maximum bankroll that you will be risking in stakes. This kind of game is appropriate for intermediate players who are just graduating better with their basic pre-determined strategic plays to spot decision making plays in poker games.
